MHS 2009 Homecoming
I have had a blast taking pictures at the Homecoming Festivities this year! It has been a joy to get to know more of the students at Monticello High School. We have been anticipating this week for a long time. The rainy weather has held us back slightly but we won't let it stop us. We hope to get pictures of as many students as possible. If you don't see your picture from Monday or Tuesday then wave real big at me the next time you see me with the camera. You can see the pictures by clicking HERE

Family Friday
Growing up in front of the camera became very natural for my family. My brothers and sister and I could put on a smile and pose for one moment and the next be ourselves. Photography became part of our lives. In a way it became a picture journal documenting our childhood. There were days when we knew that we needed a picture for grandparents, mothers day, or birthdays. My mom would set up the scenes for us (always a new theme) and we would take pictures. At the time we normally felt that it was a waist of time and wanted to be playing. Looking back on it I am very thankful to have the picture journal that we have. Now, don't let me steer you wrong, there isn't really a journal (just boxes . . . and some albums). And that leads to my
Questions of the day -
What is your picture display of choice? Do you prefer an album or a portrait hanging in the living room? Or would you prefer a wall of many smaller pictures?

Twitter Thursday
So, I know that you have heard of it. Your kids probably do it all the time. It's time you checked out twitter. The Curly Thoughts section in my sidebar on the right is random thoughts that I have during the day. I submit these via twitter. You can set up your own account and begin following me to receive updates on pictures and events. This way you won't miss anything. I know, I know, you still don't think twitter is necessary and you're just not convinced that you need a twitter account. Maybe this video will help.

Monday Motivation

Monday Morning Photography Tip:
When taking pictures, light is very important. The on camera flash does work but can also give you harsh undesirable hot spots. These hot spots are usually in areas where you want detail but because the light from the camera is so bright it literally blows out all possible detail, in turn rendering your photo less desirable. The good news is this situation is avoidable. The best and possibly the most obvious solution is to go outside to take your pictures. Find some shade and take advantage of your natural light in all kinds of photography. Our second option is to find a room that is well lit because of light coming in a window. Place your subject or person in a chair or standing so that the light comes in the window and falls appropriately on their face. Make sure to turn the on camera flash and room lights off. This way the only light being used is natural.
Question of the day:
What type of Camera are you using to take your every day photography?

Family Friday

When I was growing up here in Monticello, Arkansas, we had a family portrait hanging in our living room. Now this portrait was taken before my youngest brother was born. So, when he started to understand pictures, we would point to my mom in the picture and say "Elliott, who is this?" and he would reply "mom?" We would continue around the horn asking who everyone was and he got to be pretty good at saying who we were. We then would ask him "Elliott, where are you?" He would pause for a moment...(his wheels were turning) then say "I am at Mrs. Charlotte 's (our babysitter)"
This obviously is not that picture but the story leads into my question of the day. What do you remember most about your family pictures?
